Frequently asked questions
Questions
How does buying a car from Oakwood work?
Know your monthly budget before you fall for a car. Then find stock that fits, build your deal, and reserve when you are ready. Check your finance eligibility, then Find a car that fits your budget, then Build your deal, then Part exchange your car, then Reserve your car, then Complete your purchase, then Collect or receive your car.
Do I need an account to check finance or send a message?
No account is required to check finance eligibility or to send Oakwood a message.
Does checking my eligibility affect my credit score?
The soft search does not affect your credit file. A regulated finance application happens later, when you build a deal on a specific vehicle.
Is checking eligibility a finance application?
No. Eligibility uses a soft search and does not affect your credit score. A regulated application happens later, when you build a deal on a specific vehicle.
What is a finance profile?
If eligibility is successful, you receive a personalised finance profile you can use while you browse. Monthly figures are still illustrations. Final terms are confirmed during a full application.
Can I use the calculator without checking eligibility?
Yes. The calculator is an estimate for planning. Check eligibility when you want a personalised finance profile.
How does HP car finance work?
Hire Purchase spreads the amount you finance over a fixed term. You own the vehicle once all payments are made. Figures before a full application are illustrations.
How does PCP car finance work?
Personal Contract Purchase usually has a lower monthly illustration because an optional final payment is held back until the end of the agreement. Annual mileage is part of PCP.
Can I get car finance with bad credit?
A weaker credit history does not automatically mean there are no options, and it does not mean finance is guaranteed. Check eligibility to see a personalised finance profile.
Can I estimate a monthly payment without checking eligibility?
Yes. The calculator is an estimate for planning. It is not eligibility and not a finance application.
What information is listed on a vehicle page?
Each vehicle page lists monthly and cash price, specification, location, MOT, provenance notes and the preparation work recorded for that car.
How does my part-exchange value affect my deposit?
Value the car you want to part-exchange, then put that estimate towards an Oakwood listing. Positive equity can be used towards the deposit. Your final part-exchange offer may change after we inspect the vehicle.
How does the £99 reservation work?
Pay £99 to hold the vehicle while you complete your purchase. Fully refundable. Your reservation is applied to the purchase price. The vehicle is held for 48 hours.
Can I get a refund on a reservation?
Your reservation is fully refundable. Request a refund if you change your mind. The vehicle is released once the refund request is submitted.
What happens when a reservation expires?
This reservation has expired. The vehicle is available again.
Can I collect the car or have it delivered?
Collection: Collect from Oakwood Bury or Oakwood Chorley, matching the location shown on the vehicle page. Bring identification and any documents Oakwood asks for when the appointment is confirmed. Delivery: If delivery is available for your purchase, Oakwood will confirm where we can deliver and what you need to do on the day. Delivery pricing and coverage are not published here until the content source provides them. Handover: At handover we go through the car with you, including the documents listed on the vehicle page. Distance-selling rights, where they apply, are described on the distance selling page.
